Reduced Submission Requirements
Health Canada has trimmed down some of the essential physical security documentation to be submitted as part of a licence application. These requirements broadly cover Visual Evidence, Visual Monitoring Devices, and the Intrusion Detection System. For instance, a video of a guided tour showing physical security measures is no longer required. If you’ve already submitted an application or a change request, there’s no need to backtrack — your existing submissions stand. A full list of changes can be accessed from Health Canada’s website.
-
Cannabis Regulations Compliance
Despite the reduction in application submission requirements, adherence to the Cannabis Regulations and physical security measures is still required.
-
Impact Measurement
This change is more resourceful for applicants seeking Standard Licences, as they are required to comply with all physical security measures including Visual Monitoring Devices and Intrusion Detection Systems — unlike Micro Licence applicants who are not.
-
Effective Date
The changes are in effect as of January 23, 2024. Moving forward, Health Canada reserves the right to request additional information if needed to verify compliance with the Cannabis Regulations.
